Self-signing a document

Follow these steps to self-sign a document:

  1. Log in to your LegalZoom account.
  2. Go to Documents in the left navigation bar.
  3. Click eSignature under it.
  4. Upload the PDF document you wish to eSign.
  5. By default, you are assigned as a signer to the document, and your details are auto-populated to the Signature block.
  6. Prepare your document for signing by placing the Signature block tags on your document with a simple drag-and-drop action.
  7. When your document is ready, click the Sign document button on the top-right corner of the screen. Your document will reload in the same tab where you can begin the signing processIf you wish to sign the document later, you can access the document from your LegalZoom account or the notification email sent to you.
    • Note: The notification email contains a unique and secure link to a document that is intended solely for your use. Please do not share this email or the document link with others.
  8. Begin signing by providing your consent to sign the document electronically. To do so, click the Checkbox at the top banner that says, “I agree to sign this document electronically as per the Electronic Record and Signature Disclosure and Agreement.”
    • Note: If you wish to decline to sign the document, click the More (⋯) icon on the top-rightcorner of the screen and click Decline.
  9. Click the Start signing button on the top banner.
  10. Follow the Fill this label to enter information in the Checkbox or Text tags; if you have added these tags while preparing the document in step 5.
  11. Follow the Sign here label to each signature placeholder in the document and add your e-signature.
  12. Choose your signature type from the following three options:
    • Text: In this method, type your name exactly as you want it to appear in your e-signature and choose from six pre-formatted styles provided by LegalZoom.
    • Draw: In this method, draw your signature on the screen with the help of a mouse or touchpad. When signing from a mobile, or a tablet, draw the signature using your finger or a digital pen.
    • Upload: In this method, place your signature on a piece of paper, scan it, and upload the image as an electronic signature. This method helps you to add your handwritten signature to the document.
  13. After selecting your signature type, click the Adopt Signature button to place the signature on the document.
  14. Click the Finish signing button on the top banner to complete the signing process.

Once you have signed your document, it automatically opens in the same browser tab. LegalZoom provides three essential documents related to signing for your record. You will also receive a PDF copy of these documents to your email ID.
